Streamline Your Morning Makeup Routine: Expert Tips for a Quick Start While we might all dream of a leisurely morning to perfect our makeup, the reality is often a whirlwind of responsibilities that leave little time for a full beauty regimen.
However, being pressed for time doesn't have to mean compromising on your appearance.
With a few strategic adjustments, you can still achieve a polished look without the lengthy preparation.
Here are some expert tips from makeup artists to help you streamline your morning routine and get out the door faster.
Declutter and Organize Your Makeup Collection Knowing exactly where each product is can significantly reduce your morning preparation time. Begin by decluttering your makeup stash, discarding any expired items or those you rarely use.
Then, reorganize your makeup, categorizing it into drawers or organizers based on the occasion, such as separating everyday wear from special event makeup.
This way, you won't waste precious minutes searching through products that don't match your intended look for the day.
Prepare Your Makeup Essentials the Night Before According to Brittany Lo, a professional makeup artist and the founder of Beia, a vegan skincare company, laying out your makeup essentials the night before can save you a lot of time in the morning.
"Preparation is key to a quick morning routine," she advises. "An organized space and easily accessible products can drastically cut down the time it takes to get ready. If I anticipate a rushed morning, I prepare all my products in advance, allowing for a swift transition from one step to the next." Prioritize Your Eye Makeup Makeup artist Ashley Gomila, based in Los Angeles, recommends starting with your eye makeup before applying any other products.
"This approach maintains a clean canvas for applying primer and foundation later on," she explains. "If you apply eye makeup last, you risk slowing down the process due to fallout or smudging, which can be frustrating when you're in a hurry." Avoid Complex or Time-Consuming Techniques When time is of the essence, Gomila suggests steering clear of intricate techniques such as winged eyeliner. Lo also advises against using dark colors that require more time to blend properly.
"In a rush, I opt for simple applications that can be quickly applied without obsessing over perfection," she says. Choose Quick and Easy Makeup Alternatives There are often quicker alternatives to time-consuming makeup techniques. Lo recommends using a soft pencil instead of liquid liner for a faster application. Similarly, instead of spending time on contouring, you can achieve a natural glow with self-tan drops and a setting spray.
"If you have time the night before, you can even apply self-tan to contour your face and rinse it off in the morning for a quick and easy solution," she suggests. Master a Five-Minute Makeup Routine Makeup doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing affair. A few key products can make a significant difference in your appearance.
If you typically wear a full face of makeup, practice a pared-down version that you can complete in just five minutes. For a five-minute routine, focus on applications that yield a big impact with minimal effort.
"Curling eyelashes and applying a quick coat of mascara can make a noticeable difference in a short amount of time," Gomila says. Her quick routine includes curling and applying mascara, filling in brows, applying a bit of concealer, using a tinted moisturizer on a damp Beauty Blender, and finishing with a bold lip color that can be applied on the go. Lo's approach is similar but suggests that if you're really pressed for time, you can skip filling in your eyebrows.
"As long as you can apply concealer, blush, mascara, and lipstick, you'll look put together," she says. "This will even out your skin tone, add a touch of color, brighten your eyes, and make a noticeable transformation without taking up too much of your morning."
With these tips from makeup artists Brittany Lo and Ashley Gomila, you can streamline your morning makeup routine and achieve a polished look even on your busiest days.
